Notepad++ is a free source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. It is a powerful, feature-packed text editor that is used mainly by coders and developers. It is also very ideal for editing normal text if you don’t need a full-fledged word processor like MS Word or LibreOffice Writer.
If you use Notepad++ for writing articles, it may be necessary to keep track of the word count. Most text editors do not include this feature by default but Notepad++ does.
There are two ways to check word count in Notepad++:
1) Go to View > Summary. You will see a summary of the text being edited which also include the word count.
2) Use TextFX plugin. Sometimes this plugin comes installed by default. If it is not installed by default, you will have to install it manually. To install it:
Go to Plugins > Plugin Manager > Show Plugin Manager
Select TextFX Characters and then click Install.
Restart Notepad++ and then you will be able to see TextFX menu.
Once installed, to check the word count, select your text and then go TextFX > TextFX Tools > Word Count.
