Reliance has cut the cost of its 3G Internet plans by 50%. This is available for both prepaid and post paid customers. 3G data plans have always been costly in India, putting them beyond the scope of the casual user. This move from Reliance has made 3G Internet accessible for everyone now and will definitely get the ball moving for other providers as well.
Now you have to pay only Rs 123 for 1 GB data with 30 day validity. The same used to cost Rs 250 earlier. Reliance is also offering other plans:
- 2 GB for Rs 246, and
- 4 GB for Rs 492.
Both the 30 day validity.
These plans are not applicable for use in 3G dongles. It seems these plans are meant only for surfing on mobile phones and tablets. Reliance has stated in its terms and conditions that “data benefits will be forfeited if the recharge is done for usage in Data Dongles”. It is not clear if “Data Dongles” refers to Reliance’s own data dongles or normal data dongles along with which you use Reliance SIM.
Reliance’s cutting 3G costs is definitely good news. Other service providers such as BSNL, Airtel, Vodafone, etc. will definitely come up with similar plans in coming days. Otherwise, many existing customers will switch over to Reliance. This means we can expect better 3G plans in the coming days. The 3G revolution has at last come to India!
