It should be noted that the back panel of the phone is not user-removable. In addition to the 13 MP camera, it also houses the fingerprint sensor which is very responsive. The front of the phone is dominated by the 5.5-inch IPS LCD screen on the top of which the 5 megapixel selfie camera is located. The notification light and earpiece is located above it. The phone features on screen navigation keys.

The top and bottom edges of the phone are made of plastic and the edges are gently rounded. The side of the phone houses the dual SIM card slot, volume rocker and power button. The speaker and micro USB slot are located at the bottom edge while the 3.5 mm jack is situated on the top.

The screen is responsive and images and videos appear crisp and bright. Colours are natural and well reproduced. Viewing angles are also decent and there is no pixilation. On the minus side, the screen is somewhat reflective and not so good under direct sunlight.

Performance

The Huawei Honor 5X packs a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 616 processor with 2 GB of RAM. There is 16 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128 GB via microSD card. Performance wise, the phone is pretty good. Apps open instantly and don’t lag at all. Chrome works very snappily even when many tabs are open. The call quality is good and there are no issues with reception. The phone doesn’t heat up even when you play demanding games or heavy apps.

The phone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery which lasts an entire day with regular usage like phone calls, games or surfing the Internet.

The fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone is really useful. Apart from unlocking the phone, it can also be used for answering calls, stopping alarm and taking photos. You can save up to 5 fingerprints.

Camera

The Honor 5X comes with a 13 megapixel camera that is decent in terms of image quality. It works well even in low lighting conditions but lags a little while focusing. This is one place where many smartphones fail to do a good job. The camera app comes with several modes like Panorama, HDR, time lapse, etc. The 5 megapixel shooter on the front is decent for selfies. It comes with some photo effects which allow the user to edit selfies easily.

Conclusion

The Huawei Honor 5X performs well in all aspects—aesthetics, display and camera. The fingerprint sensor is a major plus point for the phone. The phone is definitely a decent buy at Rs. 12999.
