BlackBerry has finally bowed to the pressure offered by smartphone makers such as Samsung and Nokia. By launching the Z3 smartphone, it has taken a good move to improve its market share. Some in the industry believe that this move is a desperate last attempt by BlackBerry to somehow regain the market share.
The BlackBerry Z3 and Q10 are the first BlackBerry phones to be manufactured by Foxconn.
BlackBerry has announced two new smartphones: Z3 and Q20. The BlackBerry Z3 is a full-fledged smartphone with a 5-inch screen and running on BlackBerry OS 10.2.1. The Q20 is more of a business phone with a QWERTY keyboard. John Chen, the CEO of BlackBerry has stated that this is the first phone from the company to be manufactured by the Chinese manufacturing company Foxconn.
Coming to the specifications of the phone, the BlackBerry Z3 features a 5-inch screen and is powered by a 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon 400 chipset. It also features 1.5 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage. However, more details are not available as of now and it is not known if the phone will have a microSD slot. The phone comes with a 5 MP primary camera. There is also a 1.1 MP secondary front facing camera. The phone also features an FM radio. All these features are comparable with other phones in the market. But the BlackBerry tag sets the Z3 apart.
BlackBerry will make both phones available in Indonesia in the month of April. The $200 price tag of the Z3 makes it very attractive.
Coming to the second phone, the Q20 is more of a business phone. It features a QWERTY keypad and also a trackpad. It appears that BlackBerry is trying to attract its earlier users who have switched to other phones by offering them a full-fledged phone at an attractive price. Due to the price tag and lack of features many business users have shifted to Android phones. BlackBerry has a lot to gain by making its phones more attractive to those users.
The BlackBerry Z3 is a good phone taking into consideration its price. The phone also looks better than other phones in the price range. Most importantly, it carries the BlackBerry tag which is still something even today. Hopefully, the phone will be a fortune turner for the struggling company.
